“Viva La Fiesta De Los Muertos!” November 1 – 2, 2008
Dia De Los Muertos is one of Mexico's traditional holidays reuniting and honoring beloved ancestors, family and friends. The historical roots of this celebration date back to the pre-Hispanic cultures of Meso-America of the indigenous people, and others native to Mexico more than 3,000 years. Traditionally, it is a time when family members share memorable stories that would commemorate their lives together. We are honored to share this wonderful and important cultural tradition with others. The event has been very healing for so many. We welcome your heartfelt entries! Entry Rules Deadline: Artists’ submissions must be postmarked by Friday, October 17, 2008 and must include:
Works Accepted: Open to all artists. Heartfelt works of art are being solicited: altars, painting, sculptures, photography, etchings, and mix-media. It is essential that the work represent the true meaning of Dia De Los Muertos. Criteria of acceptance are based on a genuine significance or originality of the true meaning of the Dia De Los Muertos and the execution of the work. Art must be original and completed within the last two years. Ideally, some of the altar entries would include interactive elements that would allow public participation. For example, if you created an altar for a loved one who died of cancer, you could dedicate it to that person as well as all cancer victims. Many of our visitors in the past have been very grateful for the opportunity to put photos or simply add the names of their beloved on the altar. It has been quite touching and it gives the exhibition a life of its own. For each entry submitted - You must explain to whom the artwork is dedicated and how it relates to Dia De Los Muertos. Please write the title, medium, size, and retail price of the work before explanation. This is important because the exhibition is also educational and the artwork must reflect the true meaning of Dia De Los Muertos. Each entry must be accompanied by a photo. Submit one photo for each 2-dimensional piece and two photos for each 3-dimensional piece (front and back). Each artist may submit up to three works of art. Photo will not be returned. All entries are subject to the curator’s selection and the decision is final.

Photographs are assumed to be accurate representations of actual works or the meaning of Dia De Los Muertos.
