El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument Home of World Famous Olvera Street
Celebration Saturday, January 6th, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Los Tres Reyes
Celebrate the visit of The Three Kings for the Feast of the Epiphany with a reenactment of the journey of the Kings, also known as The Wise Men. The annual event, which takes place every January 6, “the Twelfth Day of Christmas,” will feature music, costumes, and a colorful procession along Olvera Street. Free to the public!

Art Exhibit Saturday, January 26th , 10:00 PM – 7:00 PM LEO POLITI CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
 Honoring the Olvera Street artist who produced children’s literature and art. Enjoy art exhibits, story telling, puppet shows and surprises!
Celebration Saturday, February 2nd, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Fiesta De La Candelaria
 This religious celebration marks the end of the Christmas festivities observing the birth of Christ. La Candelaria commemorates the day when Christ was presented in the temple by his parents, following Jewish practice. Mexican families celebrate by "raising" the Christ Child figure from the nativity scene. The Christ figures and icons are also brought to the church to be blessed. Finally the nativity set is put away until the beginning of the next season’s Christmas celebrations. Free to the public!
Procession begins at 6:00 p.m. at the cross on the Olvera Street entrance.
Celebration Tuesday, February 5th, 9:00 AM -1:00 PM Mardi Gras
 American college students home from Paris in the 1820s brought the bizarre party rituals of Mardi Gras to New Orleans, Louisiana. The scholars had celebrated Mardi Gras in France, and now home, they saw no reason to stop.
The tradition has held, and today in New Orleans, Paris and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mardi Gras (“Fat Tuesday”) means a traditional huge annual funfest.
Here in Los Angeles, it doesn't take much to get awaken the spirits of Olvera Street, and Mardi Gras is a great excuse to join in. "The Olvera Street Merchants present their annual Mardi Gras celebration on On Fat Tuesday, February 5, 2008. The day program from 9:00 AM - 1 PM includes children's workshops, the crowning of the Little King & Queen. For more information please call (213) 625-7074 or (213) 485-8372.
So break out your purple, gold and green (Mardi Gras colors) and come on down to Olvera Street. We're a lot closer than Brazil, and a lot more fun than studying.

Celebration Saturday, February 10th Chinese New Year of the Rat 4706 CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE 108th Annual Golden Dragon Parade
 Celebrating Chinese New Year. 2008 is the year of the Rat! Come and celebrate with us as we have a parade from Olvera Street to China Town.
The Chinese Lunar New Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating from more than 4000 years ago. It will be “Gung Hay Faht Choy” as Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12 with a New Year’s Parade from Olvera Street to Chinatown in Downtown Los Angeles. The 4705 Year of the Boar festivities will continue throughout the day on Olvera Street and Chinatown.

Celebration Saturday, February 23rd, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Chinese American Museum “LANTERN FESTIVAL” at El Pueblo Historic Monument / Olvera Street
 The 6th Annual Festival: Lantern making workshops, entertainment, artisans, and exhibits.
Falling on the 15th day of the first month of the Lunar Year, the Lantern Festival takes place under a full moon, and marks the end of Chinese New Year festivities. The Lantern Festival dates back to shrouded legends of the Han Dynasty over 2000 years ago. Lantern Festival, also known as Shang Yuan Festival, the birthday of the God of Heaven, takes place on the fifteenth day of the first moon. Last in a series of springtime celebrations, this "second New Year" is widely celebrated by families all around Taiwan.

 Celebrating the birthday honoring contributions of Mexican American labor leader Cesar E. Chavez.
Cesar Estrada Chavez founded and led the first successful farm workers' union in U.S. history and was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom & the Aguila Azteca.

 Olvera Street has celebrated the Blessing of the Animals each year since 1930. It is a celebration of all that the animal world provides to humanity with entertainment and a parade of house pets and exotic animals, displays and exhibits. All pets welcome. Free Admission!

 Celebrating one of the oldest streets in Los Angeles, Olvera Street a Mexican market place opened in the 1930’s.
Olvera Street is known as El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. It has hosted Presidents, dignitaries, movie stars and visitors from around the world.

Celebration Friday - Sunday, May 2nd – 4th 10:00 AM- 10:00 PM, daily Cinco De Mayo Celebration
 Celebration of Mexico's victory over French forces in Puebla, Mexico in 1862 with popular and traditional music, cultural presentations, festival, dance, food and live entertainment.

Performance TBA To celebrate this important historical event - the Battle of Puebla in 1862 - the Institute will offer free educational and cultural workshops, entertainment and bilingual historical information at Olvera Street. Workshops for children include coloring portraits of the Mexican heroes, storytelling about the important battle, learning to make piñatas and Mexican flags. Entertainment will include traditional folkloric music and dance, piñata breaking, and a display of traditional Mexican dresses.

 The entire Monument, including the colorful Olvera Street Mexican Marketplace, will be decorated to create scenes from Los Angeles historic past. Various areas provide opportunities for both amateur and professional photographers alike.

Celebration Monday, September 1st 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Los Angeles City 227th Birthday
 San Gabriel and Los Angeles’ shared history comes alive Sunday, September 2, 2007, with “Los Pobladores – Walk to Los Angeles” celebrating Los Angeles’ 225th birthday.
The annual Walk represents a key chapter in California’s history, with the re-enactment of the nine-mile journey of the original Spanish settlers of Los Angeles, known as Los Pobladores, from San Gabriel Mission to the Los Angeles River where, on September 4, 1781, they founded El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles. The Walk coincides with Los Angeles’ actual founding date and planned birthday festivities at El Pueblo Historical Monument on Monday, September 1, 2008. Commemorate the founding of the City of Los Angeles with historic reenactments, artisan demonstrations, exhibits, food, and entertainment.
Everyone is invited to wake up early Monday morning, September 1, lace up their walking shoes and join Walk celebrating San Gabriel and Los Angeles’ shared, living history. The day begins with the annual re-enactment of the Pobladores Walk, which will reenact the 9-mile trek the first settlers of Los Angeles traveled by from the San Gabriel Mission to found the City at El Pueblo (Olvera Street). Walkers can join participants who have walked from San Gabriel at Lincoln Park, continuing on to Olvera Street, for a shorter, 3-mile route. There will be entertainment.
Join the descendants of Los Pobladores, San Gabriel and Los Angeles city officials and staff, walking clubs, residents, and others, as they re-enact the historic walk from San Gabriel Mission to found the City of Los Angeles. This event is free to the public!

One of the many altars last year was in Dedication to all the Casualties of War in Iraq, which will be created again at Casa Belen, a temporary relocation at the plaza.
TBA the Annual Dia De Los Muertos Juried Exhibition, the “Mailbox To Heaven.” will also be located at Casa Belen and Olverita’s Village on Olvera Street.

 It's the official start of the holiday season on historic Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. See the illumination of the entire plaza and the Christmas tree. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and family entertainment that will make your spirits bright.
Celebration Thursday, December 11 - 12, All Day La Virgen De Guadalupe Event La Placita Church and Olvera Street
 Celebrating the Virgen de Guadalupe’s appearance to native Mexican St. Juan Diego in 1531.
The Dark Virgin, Patron of Mexico and the Americas, served as a bridge between our indigenous and Spanish roots. The native Mexicans identified the dark Virgin who spoke in Náhuatl with the goddess Tonantzin and celebrated her with indigenous rites within the framework of the Catholic Church. You will find children dressed-up in authentic costumes all day and all night as they make their way to the church at Olvera Street. There will be continuous entertainment throughout both days!
