Bienvenidos! Welcome!
We are delighted to feature the photographs of Juliane Backmann, a German-born photographic artist.
The ancient Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), is alive in the 21st century, and is told here in photographs of people, celebrations and displays. Juliane traveled to Oaxaca in Southern Mexico, where the ancients initiated the holiday, and to the City of Angels, Los Angeles, California, where the event is undergoing a renaissance in the modern world. Witness how the spirits of departed loved ones are commemorated in both large public events and in private celebrations in the two cultures.
