The Olvera Street Merchants will hold their annual Dia de los Muertos celebration from October 25 through November 3, 2015 at El Pueblo Historical Monument, home of world famous Olvera Street. The following activities are free to the public:

•Children’s workshops will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. October 23-24-25-30-31 and November 1, 2015. The workshops include mask coloring, necklace making and flower painting and will provide students with a history of this colorful and beloved Mexican celebration. A festive piñata breaking takes place each day following the workshops.  Educators making reservations for the student workshops are asked to call (213) 716-1373.

•The candlelight Novenario processions will be held nightly from October 25- November 2, 2015 beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Olvera Street. This traditional pre-Columbian procession evokes special memories of deceased loved ones with colorful pageantry and indigenous blessings. Before the procession, ceremonial cleansings and blessings will be offered. Following each procession, free pan de muerto (sweet bread) and champurrado (a Mexican hot beverage) will be served in the spirit of the community.

•On the weekend of October 26-27 and November 2-3, 2015 enjoy face painting, street theater performances, strolling mariachi bands, Aztec dancers, art workshops, puppets, ballet folklorico, piñatas and other fun family activities from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day.

•The Dia de los Muertos community altars (las ofrendas) and Merchant family altars will be on display outdoors in the Plaza area and in the various shops on Olvera Street from October 25-November 3, 2015 for everyone to view and reflect upon.
