Year of the RatYear of the Rat
Rats are ingenious, charming and generous to those they love - although they do have a tendency to be quick-tempered and critical. They are supposed to make good writers, critics and publicists. What, you didn’t know that?!?  We’re talking about those born under the Chinese zodiac sign, not the rodents!

A highly respected animal in Chinese culture (unlike its western image), the rat was given first place in the zodiac and declared to represent new beginnings and keen intelligence. Those born under this sign are alert and persevering. They save and work hard for things they most desire.

People born under the sign of Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They are hardworking and consequently often financially well off.  And they are likely to be perfectionists.  Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. The Human-Rodent is very social and has many friends who he supports in generous ways. Families are important; they are loyal to their families are will fight for theirs when needed.

Year of the OxYear of the Ox
Are Oxen clever born leaders who make fine surgeons, or dumb as an ox?  Guess it depends upon whom you talk to, for the Chinese Zodiac can cover both sides of the spectrum. Oxen may inspire confidence in everyone they come into contact with. However, they can be too demanding.

The Ox is generally known for its gentleness and hard work. People born under the sign possess similar characteristics of the animal. They are steady, strong, stubborn and serene.

People born under the sign of Ox are patient. They tend to be eccentric, bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. They are remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed.

Year of the TigerYear of the Tiger
Along with the dragon, the tiger holds the most honorable and ancient place in Chinese folklore. As an early object of worship, the tiger possessed dominion over the earth.

Tigers are bold and adventurous, with initiative and charm. They are risk takers, often acting before they think about the consequences. Therefore they tend to make good bosses, explorers or racing drivers.

Thus, the Year of the Tiger is known for its strength and courage. Those born under this sign are brave, aggressive, and active.

People born under the sign of Tiger are sensitive, given to deep thinking and capable of great sympathy. But they can be extremely short-tempered. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. Sometimes Tigers cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful.

Year of the RabbitYear of the Rabbit
n The Classic Race, the tortoise defeated the heavily favored hare when said hare became overconfident and napped. That isn’t too far off from the Chinese Calendar’s classic Rabbit, who is quick and ambitious, yet seldom finishes what he starts.

The Rabbit is the happiest sign of the Chinese Zodiac. He epitomizes gentleness, refinement and elegance, and avoids conflict.  In fact, the Rabbit hops past all obstacles and persons not suitable. As a result, he is rarely angry, hostile or aggressive. Companions quickly forget any discord, only remembering his gracefulness.

Rabbits are social animals and frequently find themselves in the center of attention.  They play well with others.  But they can also be superficial, flighty, calculating, aloof and thin-skinned.

Rabbits can also be very seductive and frequently have large families (must be something to all those breeding jokes)

Ideal careers areas include law, diplomacy or the stage. Yes, they are fond of salads.

If you were born in one of the following years,
you were born during the "Year of the Rabbit"

1903, 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023

Year of the DragonYear of the Dragon
When it comes to breathing fire, no one compares to the Dragons. They are showy, center-of-attention popular party animals who are full of life and enthusiasm. Never content to sit on the sidelines, Dragons are movers and shakers.

Dragons can also be stubborn and bombastic, intense and dramatic, and are apt to make mountains out of molehills.  Careful not to cross and dragon, that breath of fire is more can be literal. Hotheaded and quick-tempered, they can also be hypercritical if things are not quite right or not up to their expectations. Dragons are idealists and perfectionists; they demand a lot and they live a lot.

There is frequently an exotic air about Dragon people, especially among the women, who exude sexuality. Or maybe that was the garlic pizza they had for lunch. Indeed, whether male or female, Dragons are libidinous and score quite a hit with the opposite sex. However, when it comes to commitment, Dragons may shriek, and may have a string of loves and marriages.

They make good talk-show hosts, artists, diplomats, priests and politicians. Invite a dragon to a party. Just make sure you have a fire extinguisher on hand.

If you were born in one of the following years,
you were born during the Year of the Dragon"

Year of the SnakeYear of the Snake
Snakes are romantic and deep thinking, wise and charming.  They often keep to themselves except for a few selected special individuals. They have champagne tastes, and usually prefer the good things in life both for themselves and for those they love. These taste may extend to good books, good food and good theatre.  The high life. In relationships, Snakes tend to be high-maintenance; they are demanding, yet quite passionate in return.

Snakes can also be full of venom, carry grudges, and have been known to go through life with chips firmly upon shoulders. Although it’s hard to imagine a snake’s shoulders. But be careful not to cross a snake; those fangs are long, and the bite may be deadly.

Snakes are good at making money and never waste it (the word “stingy” may be applied here). Ideal jobs include teacher, psychiatrist, philosopher, writer, or fortune teller.

Year of the HorseYear of the Horse
Horses are truly Beasts of Burden, and are amongst the hardest workers in the human family. They will not stop a job once they have begun it, however they have a fierce independent streak; the job will be finished on THEIR time because THEY want it to be. They make up their minds fast, and needs to remember to let their manes down every once in a while.  Sometimes too fast.

Horses are confident, ambitious, sharp, cunning and frequently brilliant.  However, their independence can sometimes fault into egocentricism. Although intelligent and friendly, they can also be a bit selfish.  They are quick to lose their temper, but seldom bear a grudge.  They are quite fond of Life, Cheerios, and other oat-based cereals. If you have a son born in the Year of the Horse, don’t name him Elmer.

Ideal careers include adventurer, scientist, poet and  politician.

sheep03Year of the Sheep
Sheep are often called Goats, depending on what side of the mountain they come from. Sheep are said to be charming, elegant and artistic, and enjoy the “good life,” lush with material comforts.

Sheep are very charming, quite elegant and well-put together (smooth coats of wool). Sheep generally hate to lock horns with others, and will put aside their own wants to achieve group harmony. They love love, are full of compassion and highly emotional. Shy sheep (“sheepish sheep”?) are worriers, and the sheep’s knack for complaining can emerge rather quickly at times. They are the first to point out the glass is half empty. Just quit your whining. Baaaaaaaa, humbug.

Sheep can find happiness as actors, gardeners, or beachcombers. Maybe even a beachcomber with one of those metal detectors, searching for spare change buried in the sand. Or perhaps you could even be a sommelier, with all that whine.

If you were born in one of the following years,
you were born during the "Year of the Sheep"

Year of the MonkeyYear of the Monkey
With a clever, intelligent, witty and magnetic personality, Monkeys are generally very well liked.   Highly enthusiastic and sociable, Monkeys are talkative and, as a fascinating conversationalists, attract a wide circle of friends.

Monkeys can be quite classy creatures, and many have refined tastes in art and culture.

Monkeys are usually very successful, and are quite good with money--sometimes too good.  They love a challenge and when things get tough their sharp wits get them out of a situation.

However, often Monkeys can be mettlesome, opportunistic and unscrupulous to the point of being manipulative. They can be egocentric, arrogant, distrustful and selfish, not to mention lazy. Female Monkeys in particular can play rather subtle games with members of the opposite sex. Romantic Simians need to be on guard for believing that the grass is greener elsewhere.  Having a short attention span can also make it difficult for the Monkey to successfully complete a task.  In fact, very few Monkeys ever read this far into their zodiac.

A Monkey’s animal magnetism can lead to success in virtually any field they try, including politics, diplomacy, industry and trade, including banana importation.

If you were born in one of the following years,
you were born during the "Year of the Monkey"

Year of the RoosterYear of the Rooster
Roosters are hard working and definite about their decisions. Roosters are not afraid to speak their minds, honest sometimes to a fault, and are often called boastful.

Courageous and talented, Roosters are self-assured people. They possess powerful personalities and can easily dominate any group. I Excellent at small talk, they are vivacious, amusing and popular, and can be the life of any party.

The confident and classy Rooster is organized, refined and elegant.  Cocks (male Roosters) males are dashing, handsome fellows and will have all the fresh young chicks cackling at their feet.  Their stylish Hen counterparts may attract their suitors through their no-nonsense, down-to-earth approach to life. Roosters are often flashy cock-of-the-walk dressers, preening themselves to an extreme. Because of their own exquisite taste in clothing, both Roosters may be impatient with people who don't dress as nicely.

But Roosters can also be conceited braggarts, with an egotistical need to always be the center of attention. Roosters are often masters of debate and will stop at nothing to prove their righteousness.  They can be very critical of others, but hate it when criticism is turned on them.

They make good restaurant owners, publicist, journalist, writer, soldier, financial planner or world travelers.

Dogs are man’s best friends, who never let you down.  They are honest and generous to those they love, almost to a fault for they can sacrifice their own needs for the sake of others.

Dogs can be non-materialistic crusaders; born with an strong sense of decency. Injustice and wrongdoing gets their fur up.

Get in a Dog’s way and they will bark at you, although their tempers are normally short lived. Dogs can also be dogged, guarded, arrogant and defensive.  A Dog finds it difficult to adapt to change, and never really relaxes.  His is stubborn, and his heart and mind are always jumping, always chasing his tail.  Dogs are negative nabobs and world-class pessimists, expecting little out of life.

Year of the BoarYear of the Boar
Boars, or Pigs, are sensitive, caring, honest and indulgent. Ever popular, they are tolerant and make good friends, avoiding arguments and seldom lose their temper.  They detest conflicts and like to see the best side of everything, and everyone.

Pigs are born innocent, chivalrous, gallant, obliging, scrupulous to a fault, pure of heart and of intentions. Pigs are amongst the most honest animals on the farm.

They may naively believe that everyone is, or should be, as pure as they are.  Pigs allow themselves to be duped easily, a fault that could put them in jeopardy.

Pigs taste for the good life can be their downfall. They take great pleasure in pampering themselves and their loved ones, and can be exceedingly flirtatious and sensual.

The Pig would be best in the arts as an entertainer, or possible a lawyer. Pigs like to be their own boss.
